The three iron barrel bands have the requisite “U” stamped in them, and the ramrod is the swell tip variety, as it should be. The barrel is 40” in length, with overall length at 55.5”. We have examined the lock mortise on this gun, and it conforms to the Richmond manufactured weapo ns. This Richmond has all iron elements with the exception of a brass nose cap. This example, which remains in fine condition, is the Type II, “high hump” version it f eatures a one-piece barrel of forged steel with “VP” and an eagle head stamped to the left of the breech. This quintessential Confederate long arm is a superb example of the weapons m anufactured by the Richmo nd Armory from 1861 to 1865.
